This genuine Aprilaire 501 Filter, is the replacement filter used in the Aprilaire model 5000 Air Cleaner. These filters are factory fresh from the Aprilaire manufacturing facility in Wisconsin. The Aprilaire model 5000 air cleaner was also sold under the Spacegard name as well as the Research Products name. The Aprilaire 501 Filter Replacement Media removes up to 99% of pollen, mold, spores, dust and other airborne allergens from your air. This replacement filter for the Aprilaire 5000 will also remove up to 95% of tobacco smoke and smudging particulates. Because this is a genuine Aprilaire filter media replacement, it features Aprilaire's patented SelfSeal to ensure a proper seal and easy installation. The Aprilaire 501 filter has a MERV 10 rating. The nominal dimensions of this filter are 16x27x6 when installed. This filter should be replaced annually. The frequency of change will depend on the size of your heating and cooling equipment as well as the conditions in you r home. People who smoke, have pets, or recently completed home renovations should change their filter more frequently. This is a genuine Aprilaire replacement filter (note the correct spelling is Aprilaire, and not April Air, April Aire or Aprilair). It is also known as the Spacegard 501 or Spacegard 5000 filter (please also note that Spacegard is often spelled Space Guard, Spaceguard, and Space-gard).

Easy to do and works like a charm.

You could throw money away by hiring someone to change your filter or you could do it yourself by getting this filter. I did it in ten minutes after I watched a YouTube video on how to do it. The YouTube video made all the difference in the world. Initially, I was a little overwhelmed when I opened the box and read the directions. No pictures! After watching the video and seeing how easy it was to do, I can easily recommend purchasing this filter.

Lasts an Entire Year

It is a little bit of a pain to install this filter but it works great and lasts for an entire year so you don't have to do it too often.

Fits

I installed this myself after watching a professional do it on youtube. There are also instructions on the box it comes in, that were basically the same thing. I hope it helps, the previous owners of the house had a cat, which I am allergic to, and I could notice allergy symptoms after a few days of living in the house. It seems to have helped the problems area/room of the house where the cat must have hung out, but I also did a lot of surface cleaning in the rooms.
